    Holds

Virginia Peninsula Community College library patrons in good standing may place a hold request for books or videos that are checked out to another patron or listed as available at either campus library. Patrons will be notified by email when their hold requests are available for pick up. This can take a minimum of 48 hours.

Available hold requests are at the circulation desk for a period of 10 business days. During the hold period, library staff will make two attempts to notify the patron. Contact will be made by email. After 10 business days, hold materials will be returned to the shelf or made available to the next person in the hold queue.

Hold requests may not be placed for Reserve items, Kindles, laptops and other equipment.

    To place a hold request,

    • Find the item in the online library catalog
    • Click on the item title
    • Select “Request this item” in the description.

Fees and Policies for Overdue/Lost/Damaged Items

Fees and Policies for Overdue/Lost/Damaged Items

Borrowers are personally responsible for the safety, proper use, and timely return of the library materials that they have checked out. If materials are not returned by the due date, library privileges and college privileges will be suspended until all overdue materials are returned and/or all amounts owed to the college for fines, material costs and processing fees are paid in full. At the discretion of the Director, patrons who are excessively or repeatedly late in returning items may temporarily or permanently have borrowing privileges suspended.

The policy for fines and fees varies depending on the type of items borrowed from the library. The borrower is financially responsible for damaged materials. Assessment of damage is at the discretion of the professional library staff. Fines and fees are assessed according to the Overdue Items—Timetable of Consequences below.

After the designated time, items are declared lost and a per-item, material fee of $30 or the replacement cost of the item (whichever is greater) is billed to the borrower. At this time, accounts will be sent to the college business office as a debt to the college for collection. Return of overdue items will not relieve the obligation to pay fines or fees.  Paid fees are non-refundable.

Questions or appeals concerning financial obligations (fees) to the library should be directed to the Obligations Staff Member during library business hours by phone at 757-825-2877, in person at the Library Circulation Desk, or anytime by email at library@vpcc.edu.
